Shower Doors
Framed and Semi-Frameless Shower Doors
Doors with a metal frame, or with metal on some edges, when that is what the specification distinguishes from frameless.
A framed shower door carries glass in a metal perimeter. Semi-frameless usually means metal at the jamb or header with less metal on the door edge. Division 8 USA quotes the condition named in the documents and confirms it before pricing. This site does not treat the two words as identical.
If the specification only says framed, say whether a full frame or a semi-frameless detail is drawn. The hardware and the sightline change.
Where it is specified
- Unit baths with a metal frame on the schedule
- Projects that explicitly reject a frameless detail
- Renovations matching an existing framed opening
Style names
Doors that fit this operation.
A style is listed here when its name or its collection includes this operation. Styles whose names omit the operation are included so they are not dropped, and the quote still has to say how the door moves.
| Style | Source group | Operation | Glass published |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semi-frameless clear hinged | Import listing | Hinged. Several titles repeat this door for home, hotel, or modern use without a separate specification. | Thickness not published except where the title says 10 mm |
| Neo-angle semi-frameless hinged | Import listing | Neo-angle, semi-frameless, hinged. Thickness not in the title. | Not published |
| Framed clear corner bifold | Import listing | Framed corner bifold. The title says clear glass. Thickness was not published. | Not published |
Glass and hardware that can be named
- Domestic collections: 8 mm or 10 mm tempered glass. Eastern listings add clear or frosted.
- Hardware finishes named: chrome, brushed silver or nickel, matte black, and oil-rubbed bronze.
- Hardware material named: corrosion-resistant stainless or aluminum.
- Wall profiles for out-of-plumb adjustment are a stated feature of the domestic doors.
- GlassShield is the name of an optional film on the eastern collection, described as bonded to tempered glass so pieces stay together if the glass breaks.
- An import program is described as the same doors with a 14-to-16-week lead time. Confirm that lead time on the quote. It is not a promise on this site.
- The domestic copy says the glass is ANSI-certified tempered glass. The test report is not published here.
Confirm before pricing
- Malibu, Marla, Strata, and Ibiza do not state a single operation in the style name. Send bypass, single sliding, hinged, or pivot with the style.
- Import titles that differ only by the words home, hotel, or modern are not listed as separate products, because no separate size or hardware schedule was published.
- HX421-CH is the only model number printed on the import list that was reviewed.
- Opening width, height, and handing were not published as a catalog matrix. They still come from the drawings.

Questions
Before you price this item.
What is the difference between framed and semi-frameless?
Framed glass sits in a metal perimeter. Semi-frameless uses less metal, often at the jamb or header. Send the detail that is drawn.
Will you choose the frame for me?
The quote follows the documents. If the documents are silent, say so and the reply can ask which condition to price.
